I'm in the Los Angeles area and looking for a cooking class for beginners, preferably a Japanese cooking class, because I learn (my mother cook Japanese food have said). I'm trying this as a career, but I am sick and tired of being affraid of the stove. I need to learn only the basics of food preparation, and I do not know where to look. I have tried to find Japanese cooking classes, but no luck. Does anyone know a place or a website? Maybe a good cookbook or two for beginners?
